Monday, September 12, 2011

Georgia, the NCAA Division I men’s champions, and Oklahoma State, which finished the 2004-05 season No. 1 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, will lead the 15-team field this fall at the 17th Golfweek/Ping Preview.

Considered one of the top college tournaments of the regular season, the Preview will be Sept. 26-28 at Sunriver (Ore.) Resort, site of the 2006 NCAA Division I Men’s Championship and this year’s Division I women’s finals.

Georgia, a three-time winner this season with only one senior in its lineup, captured its second NCAA title when it shot 15-over 1,135 at Caves Valley Golf Club. Though it finished 15th at the national championship, Oklahoma State won seven tournaments, including the Big 12 Conference.

The top 10 teams in the final Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings will be at the Preview, as well as the top 10 finishers at this year’s NCAA. The field will include Georgia Tech (ranked No. 3), UNLV (4), New Mexico (5), Augusta State (6), Florida (7), Auburn (8), Duke (9) and Kentucky (10).

No. 12 Brigham Young, which placed fourth at the NCAA; No. 15 Southern Cal (sixth); and No. 20 Washington (third) also are in the field. East Region champion Wake Forest will compete, as will host-team Portland.
