Monday, September 12, 2011
It’s the year for first-time winners on the Nationwide Tour.
At the Knoxville Open, the season’s 12th event, Australian Kim Felton became the seventh player to claim his first victory, making birdie on the final hole to earn a one-stroke triumph over David Peoples.
“I’ve never won anything this big before,” said Felton, who won three times in 2004 on Australia’s Von Nida Tour. “This feels awesome but it will feel even better once it sinks in.”
Felton, a native of Perth, shot 3-under-par 69 to finish the tournament at 11-under 277. It was Felton’s 13th career start on the Nationwide Tour.
Felton won $85,500 to jump from No. 74 to No. 12 on the money list with $108,021.
