2005: PGA European Tour - Hensby makes most of first European start
Mark Hensby has been a silent assassin in major championships this year, quietly tying for fifth at the Masters, third at the U.S. Open and 15th at the British Open. But in his first PGA European Tour start of the season, Hensby made a little noise.
The Australian earned his first European Tour victory July 31 at the Scandinavian Masters, beating Henrik Stenson on the second playoff hole at Kungsangen Golf Club.
“The majors are what we want to win, but winning this is very special,” said Hensby.
Hensby needed birdies in the rain on the last two holes to force a playoff. He turned the trick, nailing an 8-footer on No. 18.
Hensby earned the title with a par on the second extra hole when Stenson three-putted for bogey.
