Springfield, Mo.

At the Cox Classic Aug. 7, Roger Tambellini was part of the story as Jason Gore won his third consecutive Nationwide Tour title.

Last week at the Price Cutter Charity Championship, Tambellini was the story as he birdied the final hole to edge four players for the victory.

Tambellini shot 7-under 65 Aug. 14 to finish at 21-under 267, one ahead of David Peoples (62), Steven Bowditch (64), Vance Veazey (67) and third-round leader Troy Matteson (69).

“Last week I felt like I played well enough to win, but you always doubt that you’ll win again,” said Tambellini, who won the 2003 Albertsons Boise Open. “This takes a lot of pressure off. I don’t want to say I’ve achieved my goal but I’m a lot closer to it.”

Tambellini, 30, won $100,080 and pushed his season total to $245,443 (No. 6), more than enough to lock up a spot in the top 20 by the end of the year and guarantee him a return trip to the PGA Tour in 2006.

Peoples got to the clubhouse at 20 under after his 10-under final round. Bowditch, a winner at the season-opening event, eagled the final hole to match Peoples.

Tambellini chipped in for birdie at the 16th to tie Peoples and Bowditch at 20 under and stepped to the tee at the downhill, 542-yard 18th hole needing a birdie to win.
