Sunday, April 5, 2009
Augusta State earned its second victory in six days Sunday with a 13-shot victory at the Administaff/ASU Invitational.
The Jaguars, No. 48 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, haven’t won in back-to-back weeks since the 2002-2003 season when they climbed as high as No. 6 in the rankings.
ASU, which won the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on March 31, turned in an 11-under team total in the final round at Forest Hills Golf Club to finish the tournament at 36 under. Chattanooga finished second and Kent State third.
Augusta State freshman Taylor Floyd birdied five of his last eight holes en route to a 5-under 65 to win his first collegiate event. Teammate Janne Kaske turned in the same score earlier in the week to win the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate.
Two other players finished in the top 10 for Augusta State. Kaske tied for third at 8 under and Jake Amos tied for ninth at 6 under.
Augusta State has won the event seven times in the last 10 years.
