French Lick Resort: The Dye is cast
Monday, April 27, 2009
French Lick, Ind., commonly is known as the home of basketball legend Larry Bird, but another Hoosier hero is about to put his stamp on this town. An eponymous design by longtime Carmel resident Pete Dye opened April 24 at French Lick Resort.
The Pete Dye Course, which rests on rolling terrain near the Hoosier National Forest, has five sets of tees ranging from 5,100 yards to a muscular 8,100 yards. The PGA of America will play its 2010 Professional National Championship at the course.
Dye’s handiwork is one of the most-visible elements of a $500 million resort restoration and expansion, which includes the nearby West Baden Springs Hotel and the new 51,000-square-foot French Lick Casino.
French Lick’s Donald Ross Course, originally opened in 1917, also recently underwent a $4.6 million renovation.
