Sarah Huarte was named head women’s coach at the University of San Francisco, the school announced Thursday.

The former All-American from California spent the 2008-09 season as an assistant at UC Davis. Huarte takes over for Ria Quiazon, who left USF for Oregon in June.

“I’m excited to work with such an experienced group of young ladies who are returning from last season,” said Huarte, who won the 2004 NCAA Championship. “I have seen these girls play and I know what quality golfers they are and how good they can be.”

In addition to her coaching duties at UC Davis, Huarte worked as an LPGA teaching professional at the Woodcreek Golf Club in Roseville, Calif.

A three-time All-Pac-10 first team pick, Huarte won the 2004 Honda Award as the nation’s top female collegiate golfer after leading Cal to a fourth place finish in the ’04 NCAA Championship. Huarte qualified for the LPGA in 2007 and played in eight tournaments after spending two years on the Futures Tour (2005-06).

The Dons, who return every play from last season’s squad, won two tournaments, posted nine top-5 finishes and advanced to the NCAA West Regional.
