Evangelista enrolls at Haney Academy

Nico Evangelista didn’t exactly have the same first-day-of-school experience as most kids this year. The 16-year-old from Manila, Philippines didn’t jump on a school bus to take him down the road to the classroom, but instead flew thousands of miles away to the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head, S.C.

It is safe to say, however, that with his move, Evangelista joins the ranks of the elite, as 94 percent of the class of 2009 went on to receive a college golf scholarship, according to Acadmey statistics. Talk about a high graduation rate.

Evangelista was selected from hundreds of potentital golfers to attend the academy, and while there he’ll have the opportunity to work one-on-one with the same mastermind who helps Tiger Woods with his golf swing. He’ll also receive instruction for every aspect of his game, as well as have access to English as a Second Language courses and mental training.

Wait a few years, and Evangelista just might be a name popping up in your tournament fantasy picks – NCAA or PGA yet to be determined. You heard it here first.
