FedEx Cup a work in progress
There was much less movement or “volatility” from the first to second event of the playoffs this year than last.
A year ago, 15 players outside the top 120 in points jumped inside the cutline through The Barclays and qualified for Week 2 at the Deutsche Bank Championship. This year, four players moved up (this time into the top 100): Fredrick Jacobson, Richard S. Johnson, Barclays winner Heath Slocum and Troy Matteson.
Each finished T-31 or better at The Barclays. Jacobson tied for sixth, jumping from 107th to 48th; Johnson tied for 31st, moving from 108th to 85th; Slocum’s win vaulted him from 124th to third, and Matteson’s T-20 shot him from 125th to 83rd.
In 2007, the first year of the playoffs, only two players moved up and into Week 2.
