Golfweek's Best Deals: Nebraska
Monday, August 31, 2009
Pound for pound and dollar for dollar, it’s darn near impossible to find deals that pack more punch for the frugal golfer than those available at Nebraska’s top public courses.
Wild Horse Golf Club first came to the public’s attention when some intrepid Golfweek course raters pulled off Interstate 80 in Gothenburg, in central Nebraska, and were wowed by a course that since has developed a national reputation. Wild Horse ranks first among Golfweek’s Best Courses You Can Play in the state and is No. 27 on Golfweek’s Best Modern Courses list. That’s a lot of golf course for a walking rate of only $34 on weekdays ($40 weekends).
While you’re there, you might want to drive west on I-80 to Lake McConaughy, where you can walk second-ranked Bayside Golf Club for $40 on weekdays ($60 weekends). Lake McConaughy is 85 miles from Gothenburg. Heck, that will seem like only 25 miles on the Nebraska plains.
