Q-Schoolers reveal bizarre personal facts

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – One of the most entertaining reads I’ve had in a while are the Q-School finalist player bios. Some players take it seriously, some obviously don’t. Here are some of my favorites nuggets:

Not many people know that … Trevor Murphy has webbed feet; Brendan Steele’s uncle is Anthony Geary, who plays Luke on General Hospital; Emmett Turner has a concealed weapons permit; Matt Davidson’s grandfather invented Miracle-Gro plant food; Luke List is an expert omelette maker; Gary Christian would rather score the winning goal for England in the World Cup than win the British Open; D.J. Brigman cuts out recipes and cooks them when he’s at home; and Dan Buchner has never burped. Ever.

Justin Peters never travels without his nail clippers; Nathan Smith without his lucky blankie; Chris Kirk and Julien Trudeau without underwear; Charles Warren without his sound machine for sleeping and Tyler Aldridge without a hat (”when you’re bald, you always need hats!”).

Ewan Porter’s favorite thrill outside of golf is “being born.” Ted Potter Jr. shot a nice buck; David Robinson watched his 12-year-old daughter win her dance solo tap competition; Robert Garrigus caught a 10-pound bass and Grant Leaver dunked on someone.

Blaine Peffley’s favorite movie is “Carlito’s Way” (highly underrated). Dustin Risdon’s is “The Big Lebowski” (questionable). Chris Sessler is a “Braveheart”/“Fletch” fan (Nice!).

Under favorite book, Nick Malinkowski wrote, “Never finished one.”

Under hobbies, Emmett Turner listed that he is an instrument-rated pilot. Hunter Haas raises chickens.

Under non-golf related jobs held since college, Rick Price wrote, “own a Tropical Smoothie Café.” Vance Veazey waited tables at Ruth’s Chris; D.J. Brigman washed dishes; Dan Buchner was a notary public for an escrow company; Chris Kamin worked for GE Capital; Nick Malinowski was a commercial fisherman and a valet; William McGirt was tournament director for the Eastern Junior Golf Association; Chris Mundorf caddied for J.B. Holmes and Troy Matteson.

Brady Schnell’s “bucket list” includes sky diving; Ted Brown’s includes playing Augusta; Chris Mundorf plans to visit the Egyptian pyramids; Matt Davidson wants to travel to every continent; Kelly Grunewald hopes to win on the PGA Tour; Brad Iles is thinking bigger: he wants a major. As for Billy Horschel? He says he’s way too young to start thinking about that!
