Alexis Thompson has been a front-runner many times before. But on Wednesday, the 14-year-old junior superstar added to her ever-expanding resume with a come-from-behind victory in the prestigious Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship.

Thompson shot a 1-over 71 in the final round at Biltmore Golf Club to overcome a two-stroke deficit on third-round leader Ariya Jutanugarn. The Coral Springs, Fla., resident finished with a four-day total of even-par 280, finishing two strokes ahead of Cindy Feng and three ahead of Jutanugarn, who shot 76.

On the boys’ side, France’s Romain Wattel overcame a three-shot deficit to claim the championship. He shot 3-under 67 to tie Emiliano Grillo for the lead with a four-day total of 7-under 273. Wattel then beat Grillo, who also shot 67 in the final round, in a playoff.

British Amateur champion and overnight leader Matteo Manassero shot a 71 to finish a shot out of the playoff. He led the tournament throughout after opening with a 65, but Wattel and Grillo climbed back in with consecutive rounds in the 60s.

Thompson, the top-ranked player in the Golfweek/Titleist Junior Rankings, remained steady in the final round with two birdies and three bogeys. Jutanugarn, meanwhile, couldn’t overcome five bogeys and a double.
