Kent State dominates MAC Championship
Saturday, May 2, 2009
Despite going 20 shots worse in the fourth round than the third round, Kent State cruised to the Mid-American Conference Championship Saturday at Brickyard Crossing.
The Golden Flashes, No. 55 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, placed four players in the top 5 – including Nos. 1-3 – to top Eastern Michigan by 19 shots. Last year, the Eagles beat Kent State by a shot to win the conference title.
Kent State sophomore and reigning MAC Player of the Year John Hahn finished at 9-under 279 to win the individual medal. He was four shots ahead of sophomore Brett Cairns. Freshman Mackenzie Hughes was third and senior Nick Latimer tied for fifth.
The 271 posted by the Golden Flashes in Round 3 matched a school record.
