Congrats, Michelle. Now do it again

Finally. The wait it is over. Michelle Wie wins.

May the floodgates open for this one-time phenom. May 2010 bring multiple wins for the one LPGA player who can actually move the needle. May the LPGA ride the wave of a superstar sponsors have longed to cash in on.

May Mike Whan, newly named LPGA commissioner and marketing whiz, figure out a way to blow this up.

The shots that helped Michelle Wie win

Michelle Wie won her fist LPGA title Nov. 15 at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational.

I’d tell you how Wie looked down the stretch on her drive to LPGA glory, but she’s only on the 14th hole in Guadalajara. I didn’t actually know coverage was tape-delayed until someone texted me with the news. (Hey, I had the weekend off.)

Needless to say, my interest in this broadcast has dropped considerably. The drama of the best leaderboard in all of 2009 – Wie, Creamer, Pressel, Shin, Kerr – suddenly zapped. I might as well hit record and go pack for Houston.

Fans waited nearly a decade to see Wie win an LPGA event, and they can’t even watch it live. Thanks, Golf Channel.

The LPGA reveals its much-talked about 2010 schedule next week in Houston as most of the golf media meets Whan for the first time. Wie picked a good time to give scribes something hopeful to write about.

While a November tournament in Mexico may not be the ideal place to make her big splash, Wie proved she can take down the biggest names in women’s golf. And she’ll do it again.

Congratulations, Michelle. The golf world needs you.
