Leonard to replace Singh at Chevron event
This week’s Chevron World Challenge has lost a high-profile entrant thanks to an injury – and no, it’s not Tiger Woods. At least not yet.
Instead, it’s defending champion Vijay Singh. He informed tournament directors that he underwent knee surgery Nov. 25 in Los Angeles and is out for the year. He has also informed officials that he will not play in the Dec. 10-13 Australian PGA Championship.
Tournament officials said Singh has been replaced in the 18-player field by Justin Leonard, but what is yet to be announced is whether the tournament host, Woods, will tee it up. Still remaining quiet in the aftermath of his bizarre car accident outside his Isleworth home in the early-morning hours last Friday, Woods has not even confirmed to officials of his own tournament what his plans are.
“We have not received an official update regarding Tiger’s schedule,” is how Chevron World Challenge officials answered in an email late Sunday night.
