What’s that saying about things happen in threes?

First, it was Jim Furyk going from Srixon to TaylorMade, then Graeme McDowell leaving Callaway reportedly for Srixon, and now, a third major winner is expected to switch equipment allegiances.

2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman will become a Callaway ambassador as soon as his contract with Nike expires at the end of the year, Golfweek has learned. In addition to using Callaway equipment, Immelman is expected to wear Callaway-branded apparel as part of his deal, according to an industry source familiar with the situation.

Callaway spokesperson Tim Buckman declined to comment, saying it was company policy not to respond to inquiries regarding potential endorsement contracts. Neither Nike nor Immelman’s agent at IMG responded to multiple queries seeking comment.

Unlike Furyk and McDowell who commanded great interest after career years, Immelman largely flew under the radar. He has struggled since injuring his left wrist in 2009, which required surgery and sidelined him for much of that year; he made only 13 starts and ranked No. 156 in earnings.

This season, he finished No. 163 on the Tour money list. Immelman hasn’t recorded a top-10 finish since the 2008 Tour Championship. Nevertheless, he remains fully-exempt as a result of a five-year exemption awarded to major winners. Callaway is betting that Immelman can regain the form that won him the green jacket at age 28. readers: We value your input and welcome your comments, but please be respectful in this forum.
