Fellows wins Silver Belle in playoff
Janine Fellows capped 2009 on a good note, winning the Arizona Silver Belle Championship in a playoff Dec. 30.
The Tulane junior shot 7-under 209 (75-66-68) at Raven Golf Course in Phoenix, Ariz., and was tied with Katerina Ruzickova after three rounds. Fellows won the title on the first playoff hole.
A native of Houston, Fellows had two top-10 finishes during the fall season, including a T-3 at Tulane’s season-opening MoMorial Invitational. She is ranked No. 48 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.
Northwestern freshman Lauren Weaver and Jennifer Yang of Coquitlum, British Columbia, finished T-3 one shot back. Casey Grice, Mariana Sims and Jackie Chang tied for fifth at 5-under 211.
Jane Rah, who left Oklahoma State after the fall semester and earned full status on the Duramed Futures Tour in November, was 13th at 3-under 213.
AJGA Ping Invitational winner Rachel Morris finished T-15 at 1-under 215. She will play for USC in the fall of 2010.
