Travis leaves UCLA, looking to transfer
Thursday, January 7, 2010
Taylor Travis informed UCLA’s coaches Wednesday that he is leaving the program. Travis was an AJGA All-American and No. 52 in the Golfweek/Titleist Junior Rankings when he signed with UCLA in April 2008.
He never played an event for the Bruins, though. Travis, of Fremont, Calif., redshirted his freshman season, and was academically ineligible for the fall season.
He’s eligible for the spring and looking to transfer to a Division I school in California before the spring season.
Travis performed well in several amateur events in 2009. He tied for 11th at the Azalea Invitational, one of the top amateur events in the country. He tied for eighth in stroke play at the Pacific Northwest Amateur and advanced to the Round of 16 in match play. He won the Alameda Commuters and tied for ninth in the State Fair Amateur, two of Northern California’s top amateur events.
Travis tied for third in the 2007 Junior Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass, one of the AJGA’s premiere events.
