Since a budding partnership began between Zach Johnson and Dunning Sportswear back in January of '06, there has been a vast improvement in Mr. Johnson’s on course style. Dunning Sportswear took this championship golfer, who never truly displayed much personal style, and turned him into one of the best dressed and most pulled together players on Tour.

Although, when you’re 5-foot-11, 160 lbs., most anything looks great on you.

What’s great about Johnson’s look and the Dunning Sportswear line is that the clothes are there for the athlete to wear and not for the clothes to wear the athlete. At no point does Johnson look like he is swimming in his clothes. His outfits maintain sleek lines and are tailored correctly to his athletic physique.

Dunning, a Toronto based company, is known for blending athletic gear with the classic elements from country club styles. Dunning prides itself on having premium quality, clean silhouettes and classic colors, which is exactly how Johnson looked last week at the Sony Open in Hawaii: high-class; clean/sharp lines; and cohesive color patterns.

Troy Matteson in oversized, ill-fitting clothes during the final round of the Sony Open.

Although Johnson’s game slowed down on the weekend – back-to-back rounds of even-par 70 – he went wire-to-wire as the best dressed this week. His winning elements were the strong two-piece collar, fitted sleeves and trim flat-front pants.

Looks to lose

Last week Troy Matteson looked like style and fashion were the farthest thing from his mind. Wearing baggy, oversized pants and shirts, he looked like he was in the wrong guys’ clothes. The large baggy pants make Troy look older than he actually is. My major suggestion would be to get a size smaller in all of your apparel, Troy, and if at all possible, lose the pleats.
