According to a report Tuesday on the Florida Times-Union’s Web site, Furyk thinks Tiger Woods will be back for the Masters.
“If I had to be, I’d bet we’d see him at Augusta,” Furyk told the newspaper while conducting a junior clinic near his home in Ponte Vedra Beach. “Tiger hasn’t come out and made any real public statements, so it’s hard to figure out. Everyone is guessing it will be Augusta. Whether he comes out earlier, I have no idea.”
The report did not say whether Furyk had spoken with Woods.
Furyk has paired with Woods in Ryder Cups and Presidents Cups, and has been one of Woods’ closest friends on the PGA Tour. Still, Furyk concedes that not everyone on Tour is looking forward to Woods’ return.
“There will be people who probably won’t be as friendly and people who are,” Furyk told the Times-Union. “Tiger probably understands that and realizes that the people who he considers his friends will pat him on the back and encourage him. It’s been a real life-changing experience. I’m sure you’ve seen it with friends and I’ve seen it with friends. Some people take sides. He probably expects some people to be pretty cold about it and some will support him and give him encouragement.”
Furyk will make his season debut next week at the Northern Trust Open in Los Angeles.
