Tiger jokes hit the sky

SAN DIEGO – An airplane flying over Torrey Pines during the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open carried a promotional banner that read: “We miss you, Tiger. Deja Vu Showgirls.”

The references were to Tiger Woods – winner of seven of 12 PGA Tour starts at Torrey Pines, but missing this year while on indefinite leave – and to an adult entertainment emporium.

The punch line is that Woods is not only a source for jokes with comics, but also in the sky.

One veteran Tour player was on the South Course’s 17th hole when he saw the banner and heard “oohs and aahs” from the gallery.

“It was tastefully distasteful,” he said of the scene.
