Jeanne Sutherland has been named head coach of the SMU women’s golf team, the university announced Wednesday.

Sutherland, who spent 15 years leading Texas A&M, has spent the last three years as head professional at Vail (Colo.) Golf Club.

While at Texas A&M, Sutherland led the Aggies to postseason berths in 13 of 15 seasons and she was named Big 12 Coach of the Year four times. Sutherland has also been named regional Coach of the Year twice.

“I am very excited to accept this position at SMU,” Sutherland said. “SMU is a great school, and the golf program has the potential to be among the best in the nation. With the talent already in place and a summer focused on recruiting, we will begin our move toward greatness immediately.”

Sutherland is a native of Dubuque, Iowa. She played college golf at Northern Iowa, where she was an All-American as a sophomore.
