Long Beach State Director of Athletics Vic Cegles announced Monday that Mickey Yokoi has been named men’s head golf coach at LBSU. Yokoi joins the 49ers after serving as associate head coach at Arizona State.

Yokoi has been involved with both men’s and women’s golf programs at ASU for the past 14 years, serving as associate head coach of the men’s golf team and helping the Sun Devils to five Pac-10 Conference titles over the past nine seasons.

Prior to his stint as associate head coach with the men’s golf program at ASU, Yokoi served as the Sun Devils’ head women’s golf coach from 2001-2002. Yokoi guided the women’s team to a third-place finish and individual medalist at the 2002 Pac-10 Championships. ASU also recorded the lowest stroke average in the country for the fall season.

“We welcome Mickey and his family to Long Beach State,” Cegles said. “Mickey is an experienced coach and teacher who knows what it takes to win tournaments and championships at the highest level. He will provide great leadership in our pursuit of a Top 25 and nationally recognized program.”
