Five players have been named to the U.S. Curtis Cup team for the 2012 match, to be played at Nairn Golf Club in Scotland on June 8-10. The Curtis Cup is a biennial international women’s amateur golf competition between the United States and Great Britain and Ireland.
The U.S. Golf Association has announced that Amy Anderson (North Dakota State), Lindy Duncan (Duke), Austin Ernst (LSU), Tiffany Lua (UCLA) and Brooke Pancake (Alabama) will represent the U.S. in Scotland. The final three players will be added to the team in January.
Lua is the only returnee from the 2010 team, as all seven of her teammates have turned professional. The U.S. won that year at Essex County Club in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass. It gave the Americans their seventh straight Curtis Cup title. They lead the series, 27-6-3.
Anderson won the U.S. Girls’ Junior in 2009, and Ernst is the reigning NCAA individual champion after becoming the first freshman to win the title in 13 years. Duncan won the NCAA Fall Preview in September for her third career collegiate victory. Pancake was a semifinalist at the U.S. Women’s Amateur in August.
“I am thrilled that these five outstanding young women will be members of the 2012 Curtis Cup Team,” U.S. team captain Patricia Cornett said. “I had the great pleasure of watching these players over the past year and am confident they will represent the USA in exemplary fashion.”
