Whitsett shoots 64 for two-shot Patriot lead
Cory Whitsett, a sophomore at Alabama, shot 64 Thursday in the second round of the Patriot All-America Invitational to take a two-shot lead after 36 holes. The event, co-hosted by the Folds of Honor Foundation, features 84 college players who each represent a fallen service member.
Whitsett, who also won the Western Refining All-America Classic in a playoff in November, rebounded from a first-round 69 at Wigwam Resort’s Gold Course in Litchfield Park, Ariz. He leads teammate Bobby Wyatt by two shots. Wyatt shot 66 in Round 2 and sits at 7-under 135 after two rounds.
Johannes Veerman, of Texas A&M, is third at 5-under 137.
First-round leader Brooks Koepka, of Florida State, is tied for fourth with three other players at 3-under 139. Kopeka opened with a 67, but fell to a 72 on Friday.
