Lafeber, two others tied for lead in Spain

MALAGA, Spain – Maarten Lafeber shot a 5-under 65 Friday to climb into a share of the halfway lead at the Andalucian Open.

Lafeber, of the Netherlands, had four birdies and an eagle mixed with a lone bogey to join Rikard Karlberg of Sweden and Jeppe Huldahl of Denmark atop the leaderboard with an 8-under total of 132.

The 36-year-old Lafeber eagled No. 14 to help him move up 10 spots from the first round, when he shot 67.

“It was a solid round,” Lafeber said. “To be honest, my long game was not good, but I did very well around the greens.”

Huldahl had five birdies in the final nine holes to make up for a pair of bogeys and match his first-round score of 66, while Karlberg shot a 67.

“Today I played very good off the tee, and when I hit bad shots, I missed on the safe side. There’s still a long way to go,” Huldahl said.

Former British Open winner Paul Lawrie of Scotland was one stroke behind along with Japan’s Tetsuji Hiratsuka and England’s Jamie Elson.
