Solo last place in the 18-player event is worth $140,000. ... Jack Nicklaus-designed Sherwood is at the base of the Santa Monica Mountains. Last week: South Africa's Hennie Otto won the South African Open, closing with an even-par 72 for a one-stroke victory over Austria's Bernd Wiesberger. The event was sanctioned by the European and Sunshine tours.
Notes: U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy is in the field along with Poulter, Manassero, Padraig Harrington, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Colin Montgomerie, Jose Maria Olazabal, Justin Rose, Edoardo Molinari and John Daly. ... The European Tour's season-ending Dubai World Championship is next week.
