UNLV earned its second title in as many starts this season after finishing atop a 16-team field at the William H. Tucker. The Rebels finished four shots ahead of runner-up New Mexico, the tournament host.

The Rebels opened with a 4-over 292 at the UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M., before dropping to even-par 288 in Round 2 and finishing with a 1-under 287 that left them at 3-over 867 for the tournament. San Diego State was third at 19-over 883 while Arizona and North Texas tied for fourth two shots further back.

Senior Derek Ernst, runner-up at this summer’s U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, paced UNLV with a 1-under 215 to tie for third individually. Junior Kevin Penner was a shot back and in a tie for fifth. Sophomore Nicholas Maruri finished T-11 at 3 over.

UNLV also notched a win at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite on Sept. 19 after defeating Colorado in a playoff. Penner was co-medalist at that event.

BYU junior Zachary Blair won the individual title at the William H. Tucker with a 7-under 209 total. It’s the second collegiate title for Blair, who also won the Pacific Northwest Amateur in July and was runner-up at the Sahalee Players and Sunnehanna Amateurs.
