Kaahanui (NR, 2012) commits to Arizona State

Trey Kaahanui of Tempe, Ariz., has given a verbal commitment to play college golf in his hometown at Arizona State University.

Kaahanui, who is a senior at McClintock High School, considered USC, UCLA, Oregon State, Baylor, Notre Dame, San Diego and Arizona.

“When Coach (Tim) Mickelson was at USD, my older brother Trent was on his team and I only wanted to go there," Kaahanui said. "That's until Coach got the ASU position. ASU is in my hometown, where I grew up and went to school, and it worked out nicely that Coach came to ASU. As soon as he was settled in, I went to visit with him and confirmed my desire of playing for him and become a part of bringing ASU back to the national-champs status. ASU has a long pedigree of golfers that I want to become a part of.”

Kaahanui was a 2008 AJGA Polo All-American honorable mention after winning the 2008 AJGA ReBath Heather Farr event. He also won the 2010 AJGA 2010 PING Phoenix Junior and was a 2009 Jerry Cole Sportsmanship Award recipient. Kaahanui, who owns more than 75 local titles, won the AIA State High School 4A Division I State Championship as an eighth-grader and was named SWSGPA Player of the Year.
