MADISON, Miss. – The Wichita State men's golf team won last month's UCF Rio Pinar Invitational, and the Shockers haven't looked back since.
After winning Rio Pinar, where they edged host Central Florida by four shots on March 20, the Shockers rallied in the final round to capture the Desert Invitational four days later in Phoenix, winning by two shots over BYU. On Tuesday, the Shockers made it three in a row, winning the rain-shortened BancorpSouth Intercollegiate by one shot over Central Arkansas and by five over Central Florida, Alabama-Birmingham and Memphis.
The event at Reunion Golf & Country Club was shortened to 36 holes by thunderstorms. The field completed the first round and nearly half of the second round on Monday before play was suspended, then finished Round 2 on Tuesday, despite another weather delay. Wichita State, No. 29 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, shot rounds of 276-290 to finish at 10-under 566.
Four Shockers finished in the top 10, led by Tyler Gann and Calvin Pearson, who tied for sixth at 3-under 141. Rafael Becker and Louis Cohen Boyer tied for 10th at 2-under 142.
Jonathan Fly of Memphis won the individual title, the second of his college career, with back-to-back 68s, giving him an 8-under 136 total and a two-shot victory over Central Florida's Brad Schneider.
Jack Fiscus of Missouri-Kansas City had a hole-in-one on the 153-yard 15th hole in Round 2.
