Texas stares down Pac-12 at Western

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – No. 1 Texas outdueled a gauntlet of top-10 teams from the Pac-12 Conference to take a four-shot victory Sunday at the 66th Western Intercollegiate. It was the Longhorns' seventh victory of the season and their third in a row.
The Longhorns used a strong team effort to finish at 10-over 1,060 at the par-70 Pasatiempo Golf Club and defeat eighth-ranked Stanford by four shots. UCLA, ranked No. 6, finished third at 17-over 1,067, followed by No. 3 USC (1,089), No. 5 California (1,100) and No. 7 Oregon (1,103).
Stanford, which posted a final-round-best 1-over 351, was led by individual medalist Patrick Rodgers. The freshman shot 67-71-68 for a 4-under 206 total and a two-shot victory over UCLA sophomore Patrick Cantlay and New Mexico State's Justin Shin. Stanford's Andrew Yun finished fourth at 1-under 209.
Jordan Spieth's tie for fifth led a contingent of four Texas players in the top 15. He was joined by Julio Vegas (T-7), Alex Moon (T-11) and Dylan Frittelli (T-14).
The tournament's format counted the best five out of six scores for each team.
