Thomas, Alabama win SEC men's titles at Sea Island
Second-ranked Alabama held off fourth-ranked Auburn to capture the SEC Men's Championship on Sunday, clearing the Tigers by six strokes at the par-70 Seaside Course at Sea Island Golf Club.
It was the Tide's fourth tournament title of the season and first conference title since 2008.
Scores
Alabama got to 12 under behind individual conference champ Justin Thomas (who closed with a 2-under 68 for his third individual title of the season) and runner-up Bobby Wyatt.
Thomas vaulted from third to first on Sunday for his two-shot victory. Auburn's Blayne Barber and Florida's Tyler McCumber and T.J. Vogel finished T-3 at 4 under.
Only nine players finished the three-round tournament under par.
Two of the biggest surprises was the lack of success for ninth-ranked Arkansas (fifth place and 27 shots behind Alabama) and No. 17 LSU (11th place and 49 shots back).
