BYU wins Cougar Classic at home

BYU won its own Ping Cougar Classic on Saturday, beating runner-up Colorado State by five shots. The Cougars fielded two teams at the event at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah, and the “B” team finished third.
BYU’s first team closed the tournament with a 12-under 276 to finish at 14-over 850. It’s the first win of the season for BYU, and follows a third-place finish at last week’s West Coast Conference Championship. The Cougars are No. 75 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings.
Colorado State’s Zakhai Brown claimed medalist honors with an 11-under 205. Mike Jurca, a freshman on BYU’s B team, was runner-up with 8-under 208. Zachary Blair, a junior on BYU’s A team, was third, another shot back.
