Backed by Luke Guthrie's dominating medalist performance, the Illinois men's golf team held off Indiana to win the Big Ten Championship on Sunday at the par-72 Pete Dye Course at French Lick Resort in French Lick, Ind.

It was the Illini's fourth straight Big Ten title and second title of the 2011-12 season (they won the D.A. Weibring Invitational in the fall).

Illinois, No. 34 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, trailed by nine shots after Round 1, but took the lead for good with a stellar second round and won despite an impressive 1-under 287 from the Hoosiers on Sunday.

Guthrie claimed his title with simple consistency, carding rounds of 72-71-67-73. Northwestern's Sam Chien was the only other golfer under par for the tournament, while Michigan's Matt Thompson finished six shots back in third place.
