Texas A&M held off a furious rally from top-ranked Texas to win the Big 12 Conference Men's Championship at the par-72 Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas, on Sunday afternoon.

The Aggies trailed by six after Round 1, but followed with back-to-back rounds of 286 and then finished with a 297 to clear the Longhorns by three shots and third-place Texas Tech by 18.

It is the Aggies' first Big 12 Conference title and their second victory of the 2011-12 season (Royal Oaks Intercollegiate was the other).

Baylor's Joakim Mikkelsen shot 4-under 68 for a 3-under 285 total for 72 holes to claim the individual title, jumping from T-6 to the top after overnight leader Abraham Ancer of Oklahoma struggled to a 6-over 78 and fell into a T-3 finish with Texas' Dylan Frittelli. Texas A&M's Tyler Dunlap took solo second, two shots behind Mikkelsen, while Longhorns' freshman phenom Jordan Spieth finished fifth at 1 over.

It was Mikkelsen's second victory of the season - he won the UTSA Oak Hills Invitational - and the eighth top 10 for the senior.
