Welcome to the inaugural Golfweek Sr. Nation Newsletter. Though it’s called a newsletter to keep it consistent with Golfweek’s other emailed publications, you will rarely find current news about tournaments. Those will reported regularly on the website and the emails you’ll receive on or about the first of each month.

Our goal with Golfweek Sr. Nation is to provide older golfers with information about people, health, fitness, instruction, equipment, training aids, travel, strategy, philosophy, lifestyle and other related topics in a way that we hope is of interest and can be used specifically by the older golfer. There will inevitably be pieces that might appeal to a much wider range of players, but if you are on the back nine of your golfing life, these articles are meant for you. For example, instruction will take into account the changes that the body goes through as it ages. We will never write about a Rory McIlroy swing position unless it’s attainable by the average 50-70 year-old. What’s the use if we can’t do it and the only thing we may have in common with Rory is height and shoe size?

Our mission is to educate, inform and make you laugh (and sometimes cry). We will strive to present information to encourage you to think about golf in ways you’ve not done before in a manner that reaches the hearts and minds of the older player.

Golf is a beautiful game. As life is beautiful, so is golf. In their beauty, both come filled with joy and sorrow. A Chinese proverb states “Shared joy is double joy. Shared sorrow is half sorrow.” We will endeavor, through what we publish, to reveal both extremes and the middle as well. As we share these things with you, we hope you will want to pass them on to others.

We’ve been consistently told by you players that the camaraderie, friendships and relationships made playing senior amateur golf are at least as important as what you’ve accomplished on the course. We will be adding new information to that mix with the intention of making these wonderful things better and have them last longer.

As older golfers we are aware that it is inevitable that the pleasure derived from golf will diminish and eventually end. There is no disputing this, but let’s resolve to appreciate every moment of every day of every year of golf we have.

Please tell us what you like, what you don’t and what you’d like to see going forward in this publication. Write to Bruce Stephen at bstephen@golfweek.com. We’ll learn more and become better with your honest input.
