Chakansim “Fai” Khamborn won the Women’s Western Junior on Friday, defeating Morgan Nadaline, 6 and 4. The two players advanced through the match-play bracket at Cincinnati Country Club to meet in the afternoon final.

Through the first seven holes of the 18-hole final, the match remained all square. From there, Khamborn, of Khonkaen, Thailand, found her stride and won each of the remaining holes. Even when Nadaline, of Anderson, Ind., birdied the par-5 11th, Khamborn won the hole with eagle.

Khamborn defeated Samantha Spencer of Georgetown, Ontario, 7 and 5, in the semifinals. Nadaline beat Aya Johnson of North Muskegon, Mich., 3 and 2, to advance to the final.

The Women’s Western Junior is the first time Khamborn, 12, has played a match-play event. Khamborn, who is spending the summer in Cincinnati with an aunt and uncle, already has three Thailand Golf Association victories to her credit.

Last month, another Thai player, Ariya Jutanugarn, won the Women’s Western Amateur. She defeated sister Moriya, 2 and 1.
