The PGA Tour announced the appointment of Tom Clark as executive director of the Tour Championship by Coca-Cola.

The appointment, which took effect immediately, places Clark – a veteran tournament executive who has worked for the Tour since 2002 – at the helm of the final event of the FedExCup Playoffs. The season finale is scheduled for Sept. 19-23 at East Lake Golf Club.

Clark replaces Todd Rhinehart, who has accepted new Tour duties in overseeing the circuit’s tournament in Malaysia. Rhinehart had been responsible for the Tour Championship since 2004.

Among Clark’s tournament leadership experience: executive director of the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in 2010 and 2011; executive director of The Presidents Cup in Montreal (2007) and San Francisco (2009); and executive director of the Ford Senior Players Championship in Dearborn, Mich., for five years.

In addition, the Tour announced that Ian Knight, formerly executive director of the Frys.com Open in San Jose, will fill Clark’s former position at the Charles Schwab Cup.
