The European Tour has announced how it will select the six boys and six girls who will compete against the Americans in this summer’s Junior Ryder Cup.

Selections will target two under-16 boys, two under 16 girls, four under-18 girls and four under-18 boys to make the 12-player European team. Players must satisfy their respective age category as of Jan. 1, 2012. The winners of the European Young Masters, to be played in July, will automatically qualify into the under-16 category, and the following under-16 players will be chosen by a committee. That committee also will select the under-18 players.

The entire European team is expected to be announced in late July.

The event, introduced in 1997, will be played at Olympia Fields (Ill.) Country Club Sept. 24-25. The U.S. team has won the past two Junior Ryder Cups.
