Leader: Rob Oppenheim/Kris Blanks, 8-under 63. Oppenheim, seeking his first PGA Tour card, finished 42nd on this year’s Web.com Tour money list. Blanks finished 161st on this year’s money list. He didn’t play an event after July’s John Deere Classic because of shoulder pain. Blanks, who earned $1,350,010 last season, made just 11 of 23 cuts in 2012, with one top-25 finish (T-11, Valero Texas Open).

WHO’S IN GOOD SHAPE

Manuel Villegas, the younger brother of PGA Tour player Camilo, is T-7 after a 67.

Ross Fisher, a member of Europe’s victorious 2010 Ryder Cup team, is T-11 after shooting 68. Fisher is No. 91 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Jamie Lovemark, the Web.com Tour’s leading money winner in 2010, also is T-11 after shooting 68. Lovemark lost his PGA Tour card after his medical extension ran out at this year’s John Deere Classic. He finished the year on the Web.com Tour.

WHO HAS WORK TO DO

Jesper Parnevik, who collected the last of his five PGA Tour victories at the 2001 Honda Classic, is T-38 after shooting even-par 71.

Stephan Jaeger, a 2012 first-team All-American at Chattanooga, is T-51 after shooting 1-over 72. He made two birdies and a triple-bogey at the par-4 ninth.

Hank Kuehne, the 1998 U.S. Amateur champion, is T-67 after shooting 74. Kuehne made double-bogey at the par-5 10th hole and par-3 12th. Kuehne made his first PGA Tour starts since 2007 this year. He sat out the past four seasons because of back injuries. He made just two of 12 cuts in 2012, and didn’t finish better than 62nd.

Leader: John Hurley, 6-under 66. The long-hitting Hurley was a member of Texas A&M’s 2009 NCAA title team. His teammate on that squad, Bronson Burgoon, is T-15 after shooting 70.

WHO’S IN GOOD SHAPE

Patrick Reed, who made headlines for a series of successful Monday qualifying attempts in 2012, shot 68 and is T-5. Reed was a member of Augusta State’s 2010 and 2011 NCAA title teams. He made more than $300,000 on the PGA Tour this year, ensuring him status on the Web.com Tour in 2013.

Alexander Noren, No. 49 in the Official World Golf Ranking, is T-9 after shooting 69. The Swede is a three-time winner on the European Tour. He won twice on that circuit in 2011.

Kelly Kraft, the 2011 U.S. Amateur champion, is T-15 after shooting 70. He played the second stage of European Tour Q-School last week in Spain, but failed to advance.

WHO HAS WORK TO DO

• Missouri senior Jace Long is T-35 after shooting 72. Long, No. 13 in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings, has won three of five collegiate starts this season, and was medalist at his Q-School pre-qualifying and first-stage sites.

Mark Anderson, who finished 155th on this year’s PGA Tour money list as a rookie, is T-47 after shooting 73. He finished T-9 at last week’s Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic.

Cameron Beckman, a three-time PGA Tour winner, also shot 73. He finished 15th last week at Disney.

Leader: Nathan Green/Matt Jones, 6-under 66. Green, winner of the 2009 Canadian Open, finished 163rd on this year’s money list. Jones was 172nd in earnings. He finished 19th at last week’s Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic.

Matt Bettencourt, who won the 2008 Web.com Tour Championship at TPC Craig Ranch, is one shot off the lead after shooting 5-under 67.

Jeff Klauk, who is attempting to return to professional golf after being diagnosed with epilepsy, shot 68. Klauk was runner-up to Bettencourt at the 2008 Web.com Tour Championship at TPC Craig Ranch.

• North Florida senior Sean Dale shot 68 in the first round and is T-6.

Brooks Koepka, the 2012 ACC Player of the Year who won earlier this year on the Challenge Tour, shot 69.

WHO HAS WORK TO DO

• Texas sophomore Jordan Spieth is T-32 after a first-round 71 that included an eagle on the par-5 ninth hole. Spieth was a first-team All-American in 2012 and helped the Longhorns to the NCAA title.

Michael Sim, the 2009 Web.com Tour player of the year, also is T-32 after shooting 71. Sim won three times on the Web.com Tour in ’09 and cracked the top-50 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

Jaxon Brigman, who missed his PGA Tour card by one stroke at the 1999 Q-School after signing an incorrect scorecard, is T-46 after shooting 72.

• Former Open Championship winner Todd Hamilton shot 73 and is T-57.
