Arizona wins Windy City for second fall victory

Arizona remained perfect on the season with a victory Oct. 2 at the Windy City Collegiate. The Wildcats also won their season opener, the Mason Rudolph Championship.

Arizona finished the 54-hole event at Glen View Golf Club in Golf, Ill., with a 15-over 879 total. That left the team four shots ahead of Washington, the top-ranked team in the Golfweek/Sagarin College Rankings. Arizona checks in at No. 2 in Golfweek’s rankings.

Host Northwestern shot the best team score of the final round, a 4-over 292 that moved the Wildcats from T-6 to third. A week after coming in second at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, UC Davis finished fourth. Defending champion Oklahoma State and and Iowa State, which won the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Championship on Sept. 18, tied for fifth.

TCU’s April McCoy won the individual title, the first of her career with a 2-under 214 total. She jumped from T-7 to first in the final round with a 3-under 69. UC Davis’ Demi Runas and Notre Dame’s Lindsey Weaver tied for second.

Arizona placed three players – Janie Jackson (seventh), Andrea Vilarasau (T-8) and Manon Gidali (T-10) – in the top 10.
