Friday, October 19, 2012
Ray Knoll of Naperville, Ill., has given a verbal commitment to play college golf at Iowa. Knoll made unofficial visits to Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Purdue and Kentucky.
The Naperville North High School senior wanted to play golf in the Big Ten Conference, and he thought Iowa was the best fit for him.
“I felt that Coach (Mark) Hankins would give me the best opportunity to get to the next level,” Knoll said. “The facilities are incredible and the school is top notch. During my unofficial visit, there was also a strong emphasis on academics.”
In 2012, Knoll won the Illinois State Junior Amateur and the AJGA Boyne Highland Championship. This year, Knoll has won 14 high school tournaments.
