Marsh cruises to Stocker Cup victory
Sunday, October 28, 2012
Amateur golf titles have been plentiful for Kevin Marsh in 2012. He added another victory on Sunday at the Stocker Cup.
Marsh, who already this year has won the California State Amateur and Carlton Woods Invitational and finished runner-up at the Crump Cup, shot a final-round, 2-under 70 at The Preserve Golf Club in Carmel, Calif., to finish the 72-hole event at 3-under 285. He was the only player in the field to finish the tournament under par, and was six shots ahead of runner-up Brady Exber.
Birdies at Nos. 1 and 2 to start the final round helped Marsh turn in 4-under 32. Despite four bogeys on the back nine, he was able to keep his lead.
Marsh, 39, won this event in 2009 and ’10. Three other past champions were in the field (Craig Doell, Joe Sanders and last year’s winner Randy Haag), and all finished among the top seven spots on the leaderboard.
