Player Diary: Alabama's Justin Thomas
Sunday, September 23, 2012
Hey everyone! My name is Justin Thomas and I am a sophomore at the University of Alabama. I am from Goshen, Ky., and have lived there my whole life. I started to play golf because of my dad and grandpa (Mike and Paul Thomas). My grandpa played on the PGA Tour for quite a while and also played on the Champions Tour. My dad played junior golf and played college golf at Morehead State University. My dad has been my teacher throughout my entire life and he's been a huge impact on where I am today.

The first part of the year has already been flying by. It seems like one tournament ends and the next one is already happening before we know it. Our first tournament did not go as well as planned. We finished third at the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm GC in Dalton, Georgia. Bobby Wyatt was our top finisher. He had a solid week finishing fourth. It was a great atmosphere yet again being the first tournament of the year. The Farm is an awesome course and I think we all look forward to playing there each and every year. Although I didn't play near as well as I had hoped, it was nice to get a top-10 with not quite my best game. We all knew what we needed to work on after the first week of competition. It feels great to get back in to team competition again!
We all had a great two weeks of practice to get ready for this week in Atlanta for the PING/Golfweek Preview at the Capital City Club. I have never played in this tournament, but I am very excited to get a preview of the course we will be playing for NCAAs in May. I have not played it, but I have heard it’s an amazing course and I know we are all looking forward to playing it. Hopefully it is the first of two good weeks we can have here at the Capital City Club! Roll Tide!
Also, I am very excited about doing a blog throughout the college season to keep everybody updated on not only my golf, but the rest of the team, and how we are doing as well as what we do for fun in our time off.
Now, Roll Tide!
