McDowell jumps to 8th in OWGR after win

Graeme McDowell is back in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking after Sunday’s playoff victory at the RBC Heritage. McDowell jumped from 18th to eighth in the OWGR after his first win as a PGA Tour member.

McDowell, the 2010 U.S. Open champ, was a career-high fourth in the Official World Golf Ranking after the 2011 Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The top four players in this week’s Official World Golf Ranking – Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott and Justin Rose – remained unchanged. Former World No. 1 Luke Donald moved from sixth to fifth after his tie for third at the Heritage, his best finish of the year.

Heritage runner-up Webb Simpson improved from 20th to 18th in the OWGR. He started the year at No. 11.

We’re five weeks from the next cut-off for players to earn a major start based on the Official World Golf Ranking. The OWGR’s top 60 as of May 27 will be exempt into this year’s U.S. Open at Merion.

Russell Henley, who finished sixth at the Heritage for his first top 10 since his Sony Open win, moved from 52nd to 48th in the OWGR.

Angel Cabrera won on PGA Tour Latinoamerica last week after losing a playoff at the Masters. Cabrera was No. 269 in the OWGR entering Masters week; he now ranks 58th, having jumped up six spots with his win in his native Argentina.

Kevin Streelman, who tied Luke Donald for third at the Heritage, moved to a career-high 59th in the Official World Golf Ranking. He started the season at No. 225 and jumped 22 spots after the Heritage.

Billy Horschel’s three consecutive top-10s at the Shell Houston Open (T-2), Valero Texas Open (T-3) and RBC Heritage (T-9) allowed him to crack the top 100 for the first time. He’s now 91st after starting the year at No. 312.

Jordan Spieth moved to No. 175 in the OWGR after his T-9 at the Heritage. He started the year at No. 809.
