Tallent, McGimpsey lead British Senior Amateur

American Patrick Tallent and Englishman Garth McGimpsey, the former Walker Cup captain for Great Britain and Ireland, survived a day of high scores to share the 36-hole lead at the British Seniors Open Amateur Championship at Royal Aberdeen in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Tallent, of Vienna, Va., shot 2-over 73, and McGimpsey's 1-over 72 tied for the day's best round, leaving them tied at 1-over 143 as scores soared along the Scottish coast. George Zahringer of New York shot 4-over 75 and was a shot back in third at 2-over 144, but his first-round co-leader, fellow American Brady Exber wasn't so fortunate, missing the cut.

Exber, of Las Vegas, posted 9s on the first two holes and shot 18-over 89, which was 20 strokes higher than his opening 69.

American Chip Lutz of Reading, Pa., trying for his third consecutive victory in this event, shot 79 and is tied for eighth, six shots out of the lead, heading into today's final round.
