Louisiana-Monroe tabs Williams as men's coach
Tuesday, August 20, 2013
Louisiana-Monroe has hired Walt Williams as its men's head coach, Warhawks athletics director Brian Wickstrom announced Saturday.
As coach of Washington State's men's team from 1998 to 2011, Williams led the Cougars to the NCAA West Regionals 12 times and earned the Pac-10 coach of the year honor in 2002. For the past two seasons, Williams led the men and women at Western Texas College, a junior-college program. The WTC men won the 2012 Golfstat National Championship.
Williams replaces Erik Hsu, a Louisiana-Monroe alumnus who led the Warhawks for four years.
“I never intended to leave Western Texas when I moved from Washington State to return to my hometown two years ago," Williams said, "but in the past week I've gotten to know Brian Wickstrom and several other members of the ULM athletic family and have been very impressed with them and the university, as well as the city of Monroe."
