2012-13 Golfweek rank: 13
Go-to girl: Junior Camilla Hedberg
Season outlook: The departure of Isabelle Lendl and Mia Piccio from the Gators' lineup will be significant ones, but head coach Emily Bastel has two freshmen and two transfers that could fill the void.
Junior Camilla Hedberg, Florida's No. 1 player most of last season, was a first-team All-SEC selection as a sophomore, finishing the season with a 73.1 stroke average and five top 10s, including three victories. Hedberg will be looked to as a leader both on and off the course for a young Gators' squad.
She likely will be joined by senior Elcin Ulu of Turkey and sophomore Ursa Orehek of Slovenia, who played in 10 and 12 events, respectively, last season, but must step up their play if the Gators are to improve. Ulu had two top 10s, including a tie for third at the Florida Challenge, and a 75.8 stroke average. Orehek averaged 76.6 and posted two top 20s as a freshman.
Junior Anna Young saw action in nine tournaments last year and will compete for playing time with freshmen Maria Torres of Puerto Rico and Karolina Vlckova of the Czech Republic, who represented their countries at the 2012 World Amateur Team Championship, along with junior transfer Sarah Schober of Austria and redshirt sophomore Katie Mitchell, a Florida native who sat out last year after transferring from Central Florida. Schober is a transfer from Redlands (Calif.) Community College, and Mitchell was the Conference USA Freshman of the Year with the Knights in 2011-12.
