Dubuisson, others earn Farmers invites
Sunday, December 15, 2013
Victor Dubuisson had a dream. After winning the Turkish Airlines Open in November, the 23-year-old Frenchman was shocked by his elevation inside the top 50 in the world, which opens many doors for a professional golfer.
The biggest door that opened was one to Magnolia Lane and the Masters. After finding out he was going to get an invite to the Masters, the logical question came up about playing in the U.S.
“I never played a PGA Tour event,” Dubuisson said. “But I really hope I will play next year, like maybe if I get one or two invites, it will be like a dream.“
In the spirit of the holiday season, the good folks at the Farmers Insurance Open granted Dubuisson’s wish and gave the Frenchman his first sponsor’s invitation to a PGA Tour event.
On January 23, Dubuisson will join Kevin Tway, a Web.com graduate, Rocco Mediate, a runner-up in the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in 2008, Max Homa, winner of the 2013 NCAA Individual championship and a California graduate and Chris Williams, a Washington alum and the 2013 Ben Hogan Award winner, and tee it up at Torrey Pines for the first round in San Diego.
It's likely when Dubuisson appears in San Diego he will find one of his heroes and now old foe in the field, a player that has had much success at Torrey – Tiger Woods.
“I was playing in front of one today (laughs),” Dubuisson said when asked about his heroes. “They were both (Henrik Stenson and Woods) playing in front of me.”
