Georgia and Oklahoma combined to win the inaugural Seminole Match Up on Sunday, and Georgia won the individual team title.

In the 12-team event that featured pairs of universities competing together (each team of two schools counted the four best and one worst score), Georgia and Oklahoma finished ahead of runners-up Tennessee and Texas-San Antonio. Host Florida State and Texas A&M were third.

Georgia, ranked No. 18 by Golfweek won the team title in the normal play-five-count-four format. The Bulldogs secured their victory with a final-round 1-under 287 at Southwood Golf Course in Tallahassee, Fla. It’s the first team title for Georgia this season, and the first under new head coach Josh Brewer.

“I didn’t look at the live scoring because I thought it would make me a wreck,” Brewer said. “When we talked last night, I reminded them that we were leading the tournament with about four holes to play yesterday and just didn’t finish. I thought if we went out today and played well, we’d have a chance. Other than the end of the day yesterday, I think we had proven we were playing the best of anyone in the field this weekend.”

Oklahoma, No. 2, finished second as a team, four shots behind Georgia, and Tennessee was third.

Georgia’s Rocio Sanchez Lobato also won a share of the individual title, giving Georgia a a sweep at the event. Sanchez Lobato finished regulation at 2-under 214, tied with Tennessee’s Erica Popson, a Curtis Cupper and winner of the Harder Hall Women’s Invitational earlier this year. There was no playoff.

Reigning NCAA individual champion Chirapat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma tied for third with Florida State’s Jessica Negron and Furman’s Laura Wearn.
